Back in the swing of things and Snow

The sickness is all but gone and I am so happy! No more body aches and spinning heads, very little coughing and little-to-none nose blowing! Ahh, to be able to breathe freely in one's own head is a marvelous thing! If any of you have any sort of cold-like illness I highly recommend Mucinex. It's an expectorant that basically kicks your sineses' butt. Along with the pills you'll want to get a box or two of Puffs Plus with Lotion because you'll be blowing your nose like crazy... because that's what an expectorant does.

So today I'm getting back to work and looking for a job. Woo-hoo! I'm also waiting on a box from Marcus Brothers that, hopefully, should contain Judie Rothermel's wonderful Charleston IV line. Pink/Red/Brick and Cream/Tan/Brown make up the collection in little teeny tiny prints. Just perfect, if you ask me, to be made into some flowers. I've already got my sketch and I'm ready to hit the ground running for when the call comes in from the Post Office Box. This is my favorite print out of all of them, but they're all great.

As I'm working I'm watching David Gilmour: Remember That Night. It came in the mail from Netflix today and I just couldn't wait to get it in the DVD player! In case you don't know, David Gilmour is the front man of Pink Floyd and is one amazing guitarist and musician. And it's just the perfect music for a rainy, er, SNOWY day! That's right, there's snow in the Bay Area! It's not snowing in San Jose proper, but it is snowing up at the summit on Highway 17!

And to boot, I found this precious little yarn last week.

I'm making a little crocheted scarf-let for a friend who shall remain nameless at this time since she reads my blog! Well, kittens, enjoy the weather and have a charming day!

I hate being sick!

I think the subject line says it all. I hate being sick. Sure 'hate' is a strong word but when the little germ-ies in your body are kicking your butt, I think it's the appropriate word. And besides, who really likes to be sick? Sure grade-schoolers do but that's only until 3:00 and then being sick becomes the bane of their existence. So what have I been doing since I've been sick? A whole lotta nuthin'! That's right, for the last 48 hours I've been sacked out on the couch, remote in hand, filling my head with junk (thank you, Regis & Kelly & Soulja Boi) and my body with liquids (thank you, Ocean Spray). Today is Day 3 and I'm feeling a lot better, but not well enough to pull myself away from the TV just yet... I DVR'd Persuasion and it's so calling my name! I have an interview next Tuesday so I'm going to take it slow. I don't need a relapse!

Saturday Happenings & Sunday Watchings

On any given Saturday you can find me wandering the aisles of my local Joann Fabric and Craft store. Why? I absolutely have no clue except for the fact that I am drawn to that store. It is the LOST Island and I am Oceanic Flight 815, baby, coming in to land. More often than not I don't have any particular project in mind when I go in to shop. Sometimes I find way more than my budget allows but I "have to have it" anyway and sometimes I find nothing. But each time I go I look and I look and I look and I end up finding some pretty good stuff. Whether or not it comes home with me is another story. Today was a good day... and I stayed within my budget! Today I found some magnetic closures that were in the clearance bin for 97¢. Yay, me! There were some other really cool things I found today, too.

It seems like Joann's is buying up old lines of fabric from popular design houses. I've been finding A LOT of Alexander Henry fabric at Joann's. Today I found these:

So cute, right? On the selvedge it has 2006 as the printing date and I'm not sure you could find these if you went into a proper Quilt Shop. In the last year I've found some others, too. I've got about 6 yards of the multi-colored "Inked" fabric, a couple of yards of the surfboards on pink background, and 6 or 7 yards total of a really cool funky flower and coordinating print I've been meaning to use to make a dress! Like I said, if you know what you're looking for, you can find some pretty good stuff at Joann's.

I also came across this pretty cool line of fabric. You can see it better on the Fons & Porter website and they have an example of how to use it. (Type "Running 8ths" into search field if it doesn't automatically come up.) My two favorite colorways are the red/royal and the and the Turquoise/Chocolate.

Saturday evening wasn't a bust either. Robin went to his first dance at Branham - his first should have been Homecoming, especially since he was nominated Sophomore Homecoming Prince, but that's another story - and I was recruited to do his girlfriend, Shannon's, hair. It's always fun being a part of the high school dance hubbub. Shannon's step-mom, Kathy, made a wonderful Brazilian dinner (which was done as part of a cultural event project for school) and it was amazing. Once the kids were dropped off at the school, I went home and hunkered down for some serious TV watching... We DVR'd Monk and Psych. Two of the absolute best shows.

Sunday was normal. I taught myself how to crochet. More on that later, though. Do you know about Masterpiece's ( aka Masterpiece Theatre) new line-up? Can you say "The Complete Jane Austen"? Last night they showed Persuasion and I have to admit there's a new Jane Austen Hottie on the block! Say Hello to Captain Frederick Wentworth! (Rupert Penry-Jones)

Apart from the new hotness ::sigh!:: the way they shot this version was just very creative and very refreshing for an Austen adaptation. Even Robin was in to it! I was delighted and charmed. And did I mention the Borg Queen (Alice Krige) is in it, too? Creepy! Next up is Northanger Abbey. Needless to say I already have my DVR scheduled to record it. Tata! Have a charming Monday!

Some badly needed inspiration

I love StumbleUpon. It is absolutely my favorite way to waste time.* And while I'm wasting time I usually Stumble some pretty cool websites like this one I found today. It took me a moment to realize what exactly the pictures were. You can click on each of the pictures and see them larger. Some of them are so incredibly cool. Here are a couple of the ones that got my mind whirring:

It was really nice to find this site and it came just when I needed it. I've been looking for a job since the first of the year and it is just so draining. All my mind wants to do at the end of the day is plug into the TV and not be creative at all. And that sucks. But now I've got some new inspiration... off to create something charming y'all!
